As a sci-fi/fantasy buff I tend to be down on Hollywood remakes/re-envisionings of great things. For example I ended up downgrading Transformers from an A (at start) to a B- by the time it was done because of a bunch of fucktardery. So needless to say Star Trek was a movie I came into with mixed expectations... This was a franchise that needed a serious retooling as the last 3 movies have been beyond bad. At the same time I was concerned with them even fucking touching the most iconic crew in science fiction history. They are the fucking fellowship of the ring of Sci-Fi...
So what did I think?

I fucking loved it. Plain and simple. I saw the movie alekto, Kelsea, and Rembrandt. K, like me, is a fan but not obsessive so we sat next to each other and exchanged glances everyonce in a while to gauge what we thought. We both had smiles on our faces everytime we looked over at each other. There were a few areas the required some willing suspension of belief but the overall delivery was so good I could let those slide.

I am pleased. A few die hard fans in the back were arguing and I heard one of the best remarks:

"So you're mad because they made a movie that is watchable for someone other than Star Trek fans?"
that made us chuckle...

As for the rest of the weekend... I had hoped to make it to the Inferno but I think those plans are evaporating pretty quickly... I want to spend a little QT with alekto before leaving for philly and tonight will be one of our only free times....plus there are some projects in the lab that are going to get me in at 7am tomorrow for an hour or two...
